Arkansas Passes Bitcoin Mining Law to Protect Miners
A law to regulate Bitcoin mining and protect miners was approved by the Senate and House of Arkansas.
The Arkansas Data Centers Act of 2023 establishes appropriate laws for Bitcoin miners in an effort to stop unethical business practices.
According to the bill, miners must "pay applicable taxes and government fees in accepted forms of money and operate in a way that places no burden on the generation or transmission network of an electric public utility."
The governor's administration is currently considering Rep. Rick McClure and Senate Joshua Bryant's proposed legislation to regulate bitcoin mining. According to the measure, crypto miners have the same privileges as data centers, which Arkansas recognizes as being good for the regional economy.
According to the bill, individuals who pay the appropriate utility fees may operate home Bitcoin mining operations. The legislation outlines the regulations necessary to protect Bitcoin miners from unjustified industry-specific taxes and regulations.
Furthermore, it describes "digital asset mining" as the process of using a computer to use energy in order to protect or validate a blockchain network, and "digital asset miner" as a person who mines for digital assets.
A similar law was approved by the Montana State Senate in February. It aims to protect at-home mining, stop unjust electricity prices for miners, and establish that bitcoin used for payment is exempt from additional taxes.
