LUXOR RELEASES THE FIRST US-MADE ANTMINER FIRMWARE.
The first third-party Antminer-compatible firmware entirely built and engineered in the United States is LuxOS, which was made available by Luxor Technologies, a provider of Bitcoin mining software and services.
Firmware is described as "a sort of software that is meant to offer precise operating instructions to computing hardware" in the press release that was issued to Bitcoin Magazine. Firmware gives Bitcoin miners the ability to tweak the ASIC chips in their mining rigs' performance to increase hash rate and boost power efficiency.
Miners can use firmware to raise their machine's power efficiency to boost gross margins when mining profitability is low. Miners can utilize their firmware to enhance a machine's hash rate when profitability is high in an effort to accelerate their return on investment.
"We've consistently heard from our partners that the industry lacked a US-designed-and-engineered bespoke firmware to help them boost their mining margins," said Luxor CEO Nick Hansen. The Luxor team was uniquely qualified to develop this solution, and we are excited to share our technology with both current and potential business partners.
The press release states that LuxOS is currently available for Bitmain Antminer S19 series and S9 series Bitcoin miners. The Luxor team used Rust to create a customized version of the firmware; it does not rely on open-source alternatives like CG miner. Also, when using the bitcoin mining pool operated by Luxor, LuxOS users will pay lower costs.
