US lawmakers introduce bills to protect bitcoin mining
Mississippi and Missouri state legislators have moved to take advantage of the development of blockchain technology by putting out new legislation to formally safeguard their citizens' rights to mine bitcoin (BTC) and conduct node-running activities.
The two state's Houses and Senates are reportedly reviewing the measures, and lawmakers plan to vote on the legislation soon. The bill's sponsors are Sen. Josh Harkins, Reps. Jody Steverson from Mississippi and Phil Christofanelli from the Missouri House.
Both bills expressly indicate that it is perfectly lawful to own and run mining nodes in both private houses and on an industrial scale, and their respective structures were both influenced by the Satoshi Action Fund, a non-profit group that advocates for bitcoin mining.
The proposed legislation will also shield miners from "discriminatory energy rates," political subdivisions attempting to impose unique zoning regulations that do not apply to other data centers in the state, and other issues.
Dennis Porter, the Satoshi Action Fund's CEO and founder, advised Americans to take advantage of the new development by actively participating in the "bitcoin boom."
Mining infrastructure is frequently constructed in rural areas of America. We hope Mississippi and Missouri realize this potential and start welcoming Bitcoin mining operations into their states.
The proposed measure represents the United States government's newest attempt to embrace cryptocurrencies. The stablecoin legislation bill Pat Toomey, an outgoing senator from Pennsylvania, introduced in December 2022 will serve as a model for more accommodative crypto laws in the near future.
